Well, i was gearing up for another hearty day of corner boards when i ripped my thumb open on the table saw. It's always the table saw, you know... Scary stuff... the run into the house not knowing if i had severed my thumb or what. Anyway, thanks to my awesome roommates, i got it under control, wrapped up, and got over to the ER for some good times with Ben making hospital jokes (it's all fun and games until the lidocaine wears off). 4 stitches later and i was back home, filled with gratitude at how totally lucky i was to have done nothing too serious to my hand or fingers. You can keep an eye out in the time lapse for the before and after pics of me with my bandaged thumb.
The cool up-side is that i dripped some blood on the raw concrete floor, so the mark of my work will be there later to remind me. (Thankfully it's my unfinished concrete floor, and not a client's.)
To head off a couple questions:
- It was not lack of attentiveness or being in a rush that caused it, but just general foolhardiness, which won't be repeated, rest assured, as i am acutely aware of how close i came to a more serious problem.
- I may have to take a week or two off the project, depending on how much i can get done without a usable right thumb. We shall see.
- I'm going to try to time lapse the healing of the wound. :-) We'll see if it's feasible.
Later on i finished up the repair work on the corner board snafu (which was also done on the table saw, and which bore an eerie resemblance to my thumb injury, and which was repaired in an eerily similar fashion), and did some simple cleanup. Didn't want to hammer or do anything drastic until the wound had a day or two to tell me what was up with it... Called it a bit early 'cause i need to finish processing out the adrenaline. :-)
(Probably best to press play on the videos, then pause, then wait for video to load, then play, for smooth playback... they are big files.)

I know.
Alternately, you might need to update your Flash plugin.
